about

Can we approach God in worship from a place of anger? Absolutely. Sin is reason for anger and desperation for God to act. God's name is at stake in my heart and obedience, and that's no small deal. Being tripped up by selfish ambition, sinful desires, and self-preoccupation are not small deals. Captivity to sin means defaming God, and yet He is worth every ounce of desire we have. We need rescue!

But there is no exit from captivity except that we see Jesus for who He is and enjoy Him. The chorus lands on Jesus seen for who He is as our atonement for sin.

lyrics

Wading in a valley void of rain
Racing after empty dreams again
Your Spirit interrupts us from our haste
He beckons us to freely come and taste
While sin entices us to stay away
We're divided, we are crying out

Arise, O Lord, and vindicate your name
Hear our cries,
And break the powers of sin and shame
Fill our eyes with Jesus captive in our place
And becoming our disgrace
O Lord, arise

The enemy surrounds on every side
He preys upon the sinful lust inside
Idolatry distracts our godward gaze
We suffer as the sinful self invades
Yet in our gravest need, you most provide
Prone to wander, we are crying out

Arise, O Lord, and vindicate your name
Hear our cries,
And break the powers of sin and shame
Fill our eyes with Jesus forsaken in our place
Rid the shamed of their disgrace
O Lord, arise

He roamed without a place to lay His head
The weight of all our wrongs upon His chest
His sufferings redefine our darkest pain
The pleasures of His future home sustain
Secure in His embrace at last we rest
Prone to doubting, we are crying out

Arise, O Lord, and vindicate your name
Hear our cries,
And break the powers of sin and shame
Fill our eyes with Jesus punished in our place
Rising up in rich display
Of Your vast, unyeilding grace
O Lord, arise
