This song was written a good many years ago with my friend, Steven Emory. I had the melody in my head for some time, but I didn't have any lyrics. Then, late one night, Steven and I sat down together, him on bass, myself on acoustic, and we filled out the melody into a full song. It's odd in that the lyrics are from God's point of view, speaking to His people. The words come from common and broad themes in scripture, and the song is meant to be a comfort.
O Israel, why do you change?
From age to age, I stay the same
O Israel, why do you fear?
I am your God, and I am near
I am your father, I am your God
Call to me, and you won’t be ashamed
I am your savior, I am the rock
I am your refuge, so don’t be afraid
You are mine, I will not let you go
O my child, why do you run?
My arms are wide, my daughter my son
O my beloved, draw near to me
All of your shame was nailed to that tree
